RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Seven different players scored to lift California Baptist University 7-0 over Chaminade Tuesday, extending the Lancers shutout and winning streaks to four games.
"It's pretty exciting to have seven different players score," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "That was the best part of our dominating performance: everyone got into the attack. It was a great team performance."
The Lancers improve to 7-4 overall, 6-1 in the PacWest, with the win, while the Silverswords drop to 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in conference.
Ever since dropping a disappointing 1-0 loss at Fresno Pacific, the Lancers have been on a scoring rampage and have outscored their last four opponents 19-0. CBU outshot Chaminade 36-2, keeping almost half on goal at 17.
"We prepare for every game the same," said St. Clair. "We want to focus on what we can control: our execution and performance. We want to start well in the first 15 minutes."
Kimberly Allard capitalized off a scramble in the box in the 13th minute, finding herself open at the far post. Kelly Jenks poked the ball across the goal to allow Allard the chance to easily place it into the net.
Three minutes later, Jenks added her eighth goal of the season to extend CBU's lead to 2-0. Samantha Myers started the opportunity by taking the balll down the left side of the field to cross to Jenks.
"One of the things we really wanted to work on coming into this season was getting our defenders into the attack," said St. Clair. "[Samantha] did a good job to get two assists. We're continuing to work on getting more of an offensive presence from the back."
CBU would continue its scoring spree, adding two more goals just a minute and 44 seconds apart from each other. In the 21st minute, Kailey Nishimura lobbed a shot from distance over Chaminade's goalkeeper and Lindsay Vesling netted the fourth goal less than two minutes later off a cross from Myers, bouncing it off the back post into the goal.
"We had the opportunity to get everyone involved today," said St. Clair. "We're blessed to have a very deep team. Getting an early lead allows us to work on aspects within the game. We get to iron out each side of the ball once we can establish tone and rhythm."
Despite the 4-0 lead, the Lancers weren't ready to slow down as Jasmine Stokes added the fifth goal a minute and a half before halftime. Lauren Wallberg laid a through pass to Stokes, splitting two defenders, and Stokes placed it into the back of the net to give the Lancers a 5-0 cushion after the first period.
The Lancers continued to create chances but wouldn't find the back of the net again until the last 10 minutes of action. Tambrie Awai scored her first goal of the season, dodging a defender to strike the ball over the diving goalkeeper's outstretched arm.
With one second left on the clock, Isalei Tauese put the final nail in the coffin, beating a defender to score her first goal of the season.
Chaminade couldn't quite seem to break through the defensive wall the Lancers put up, despite breaking into the Lancers' defensive third. CBU's defense protected goalkeepers Rosie Nakata and Leigh Ann Lindsey from facing any shots on goal.
"It's incredibly important to defend as a team," said St. Clair. "You can't have a great offense without a strong defense. We're seeking to be a well-balanced team so we need to have a good defense in order to build forward and keep fluid shape on both sides of the ball."
CBU hits the road next for a string of away games, first taking on Point Loma a week from Saturday on Oct. 19.
"We're looking forward to some time off to rest and recover so we can be ready for Point Loma," said St. Clair.
