RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- As California Baptist University's 2013-14 season is just getting started, head coach Rick Croy is already adding to the arsenal for next year in international star Jordan Heading.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jordan Heading to the CBU family," said Croy of Heading, who will join the Lancers for the 2014-15 season. "He is a tremendous fit for our university and basketball program. We are confident that he is going to make an incredible impact on our campus as a student, athlete and person. “
Born in Australia, Heading began his basketball career in Taiwan at an American International Christian School where his father worked as the athletic director and principal. His freshman year he led the varsity squad to its first-ever undefeated season under head coach Dan Robinson. The Morrison Academy squad went on to claim both the Taiwan CBL and US Department of Defense Far East championships that season.
The next year, Heading captained the squad to consecutive championships, averaging 26 points per game to earn himself the Far East MVP award. In just those two years at Morrison Academy, Heading ranked in the school's top 10 lists for ever major category, including the top spot for three-point shooting percentage.
As a dual Australian and Filipino citizen, Heading went on to represent the Philippines in the 2010 under 16 FIBA Asia World Championship qualifier, helping the team make it to the semi-final round.
Heading and his family moved back to Australia in 2012 where he joined the South Australia state team at the Australian National Under 18 Championships. At the tournament, Heading ranked as a top-seven scorer and owned the second-best free throw percentage.
Currently playing in the South Australia U23 State League, Heading averages 19 points per game as the starting point guard for the South Australian U20 basketball team, which will play in the Australian National Championships in February of next year.
