CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Two big wins on day two of the Claremont Convergence tournament have California Baptist University at .500 for the first time this year.
An 18-3 win over Whittier and a 15-4 victory over Cal Lutheran pushed the Lancers to 10-10 on the year, a clean slate. CBU struggled early in 2013, starting 1-9, but nine wins in their last 10 games have them even as they head into five straight home games.
The Lancers took on Whittier in the early game, facing a team that was 5-7 coming in. The win makes the Lancers 7-0 all-time against the Poets.
CBU faced a familiar foe in game two as they took on the Cal Lutheran Regals. The win makes the Lancers 5-1 all-time against CLU.
The Lancers went 3-1 at the Claremont Convergence tournament; they are now 11-1 all-time at tournaments hosted at Claremont.
CBU hosts Iona on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Lancers also lead that series 6-1.
After that meeting, CBU hosts its third tournament of the year March 15-16. The Lancers, along with the Redlands Bulldogs, bring in 15 other schools for the two-day, 27 game, Lancer Invite.
