RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Day two of the second Lancer Invite was filled with intrigue as California Baptist University battled hard on its way to two one-goal losses.
CBU went back and forth with Concordia in the first game, fighting all the way until the final play, but ultimately fell 10-9.
The Lancers offense took on a different feel in this game, as they relied heavily on the two-meter position to produce offense. Moly Gritchen responded, providing four of their nine goals.
Laura Kocsis continued her strong play, also tacking on four goals for CBU. Morgan Barrows scored the only other goal for the Lancers.
This was the most intense game of the day as the lead changed, or the game tied, a total of 19 times.
The last minute of the game featured three timeouts, a Lancer goal, a Concordia
goal and a missed penalty shot as the Eagles fought to hold off CBU.
Meghan Rowland played the entire game for the Lancers, picking up eight saves.
Game two was just as close, as the Lancers battled the Wagner Seahawks, but ended up losing 4-3.
With only seven goals and just six exclusions, the game finished in just under an hour.
It was a game that the Lancers never led as they fell quickly to a 4-1 deficit, and spent the remainder of the game battling back.
Barrows and Gritchen each added another goal to their daily tally, and Hannah Evans tacked on the third CBU goal, but it was not enough to overcome the Seahawks.
Leticia Perez played the whole game and recorded nine saves.
The two losses dropped CBU to 1-3 in the tournament and 11-14 overall.
They resume play next week at the Arizona State Invitational where they will face Colorado State, Pomona-Pitzer, La Verne, No. 19 Hartwick and No. 18 Michigan.
