THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- It was all about twos today in Thousand Oaks, as California Baptist University doubled their number of wins this year by picking up victories over La Verne and Fresno Pacific.
CBU was led by Laura Kocsis' 10 goals, including seven in the second game; her second game with six or more goals this season. She has been on fire lately, scoring 16 goals in the Lancers current three-game winning streak.
The Lancers welcomed Hannah Evans back into the pool today after she missed their last four games. She came back with a vengeance by putting up three goals against La Verne and four against FPU.
She is one-third of what is turning into quite an effective inside force for CBU. Evans, Kim Latschaw and Molly Gritchen are three different high scoring options at two-meter for the Lancers.
Gritchen's four goals against La Verne led the Lancers in their early 16-4 win, and she had seven total goals on the day. Latschaw netted two in game one and one in CBU's 17-5 win over Fresno Pacific.
The three-game win streak and 49 combined goals prove that the Lancers are officially out of their early season skid that had them sitting at 1-9. Their ability to score, and score often, was something that was not present early in the season, but now seems to be no problem.
Throughout the two games Briana Tryon, Morgan Barrows and Samantha Banks also added goals for the Lancers.
CBU faired well on 6-on-5 opportunities today, going 2-5 against La Verne and 2-4 against Fresno Pacific. The 44 percent success rate on the day increases their season average on 6-on-5 chances.
The Lancers now sit at 4-9 on the year, and have three more games tomorrow. They take on Whittier, Villanova and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps during day two of the Posada Royale tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran.
