CLAREMONT, Calif. – In its second chance this season, California Baptist University was determined to remain unbeaten at the Pomona-Pitzer Relays. The Lancers achieved that by winning nine of 12 events.
Those victories helped CBU compile 129 points, while host Pomona-Pitzer took runner-up honors in the seven-team competition with 105 points. Twelve Lancers contributed to those seven victories, with seven individuals logging multiple wins on the day.
Patricia "Yosita" Hapsari's performance was unrivaled, as she posted five victories in 200-yard medley, 50-freestyle crescendo, 400-free, 400-individual medley and 3x500-free relays. Alena Rumiantceva, Tessa Olson and Christie Halverson each logged three wins for CBU, which received two each from Kristina Tchernyschev, Hailey Golden and Melody Coleman. Andrea Laliena, Courtney Chacon, Sara Yoshii, Kylie Mihld and Alyson Barnes each had a victory, as well.
In the 200-medley relay, Laliena, Rumiantceva, Tchernyschev and Hapsari teamed up and showed they are on course for an NCAA Division II Championship consideration time, with a time of one minute, 47.93 seconds. The D-II B cut is 1:46.54.
Hapsari joined forces with Halverson, Olson and Golden in the 400-free relay for a victory in 3:38.21. She then met up with Mihld, Coleman and Rumiantceva for a win in 4:07.67.
While it was not done on relays, the Lancers saw Bre Schlenger claim two victories, as well. The junior diver swept both the 1- and 3-meter diving boards for the win.
"She's closing in on her national cuts," dive Coach Jeff Couto said. "I couldn't have asked for anything more my athletes today. It truly is a blessing to have the privilege to coach these amazing athletes."
CBU dive is back in action Nov. 13th at the two-day USC Dive Invite. The swim team will compete in a dual at Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 14th at noon.
