RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Six softball standouts from No. 11-ranked California Baptist University were named to the All-PacWest Conference teams, released Wednesday.
Loie Kesterson led the group as the conference's Newcomer of the Year and a first-team selection. After transferring in as a junior, the left-handed pitcher finished the regular season with the second-best ERA in the PacWest, boasting a 1.65 with 20 wins — three away from breaking into the Lancers' single-season record book. She holds opponents to a .213 batting average, sitting third in the conference, while striking out a 10th-best 64 batters. Kesterson has recorded 13 appearances where she didn't allow an earned run, including six shutouts.
Fellow pitcher Kayla Hatch picked up second-team honors, her first of her career. The right-handed pitcher topped the conference with the fewest losses, only conceding three during the regular season, as well as her 1.94 ERA. Like Kesterson, Hatch also has 20 wins on the year to rank second in the PacWest and in the top-25 of the NCAA Division II standings. She was the only pitcher to have shutout Dixie State, helping the Lancers hand the Red Storm their only conference loss of the year.
Savannah Miller, Krista Mann, Jacque Lopez and Tayler Castro rounded the all-conference honors, each finding a spot on the third team.
Miller finished the regular season with a team-high .362 average, 49 runs scored, 38 RBIs, seven home runs, .444 on-base percentage and .589 slugging percentage. Of her seven home runs, two came in the last regular-season series to help CBU keep its record against Dominican unscathed and were both good for grand slams. She ranks fourth in the PacWest for runs scored and sixth for runs batted in. With 51 career doubles, Miller is eight away from tying the all-time career record, set by Nikki Lowe (59).
Mann grabs her second-straight all-conference recognition after debuting on the first team last year. She has continued her impressive play at the plate, sitting second on the team with two triples, 52 hits and 36 runs scored. Mann also ranks third on the team with a .323 average and 10 doubles.
With her second all-conference selection, Lopez finished the regular season with the second highest batting average (.353) and on-base percentage (.427) on the team. She leads the team and ranks sixth in the PacWest with three triples. While an offensive weapon for the Lancers, Lopez is also a dominant force on defense and boasts the second-best fielding percentage (.989) of the CBU starting lineup.
Rounding out the all-conference honors, Castro makes her first appearance on the list with the third-team selection. The junior outfielder leads the Lancers with 12 doubles, ranking eighth in the PacWest, and is second on the team with a .543 slugging percentage and 36 RBIs.
CBU starts the NCAA Division II West Region tournament Thursday, facing Chico State at noon Pacific time on the campus of Dixie State.
