Eight Lancers Highlight the WAC Postseason Awards

RIVERSIDE --- The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced the recipients of its softball postseason awards on Tuesday. Following the first conference championship in the program's Division I era, the list of honorees is highlighted by eight Lancers receiving honors from the WAC.
CBU, the top seed in this week's WAC Tournament, grabbed three of the conference's major awards. Three Lancers were selected to the First-Team All-WAC, followed by four Second-Team selections and one All-Defensive Team honoree.
First-year head coach Brandon Telesco was voted the WAC Coach of the Year by his peers. The Lancers enter the postseason with a Division I era record 40 wins. CBU has also set DI era records for runs scored, triples, home runs, RBI, and stolen bases. Telesco, now a two-time conference coach of the year, was also named the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) Coach of the Year in 2023 with Park University (AZ).
Sophomore Miranda De Nava was also recognized as a First-Team All-WAC selection and the WAC Pitcher of the Year. De Nava holds the CBU Division I era record for strikeouts in a season and enters the postseason with a 17-7 record and a 2.24 ERA. She is tied for 12th in the country with 29 starts, 21st with 164 strikeouts, and 34th with 14 complete games. Her ERA is 41st in Division I.
De Nava was also named to the All-Defensive Team.
Freshman Kenzie Farrier-Pilon is the WAC Freshman of the Year and a First-Team All-WAC selection. Farrier-Pilon enters the postseason needing one hit and two doubles to match a pair of Division I era records. The shortstop is batting .400 with 70 hits, 46 runs scored, 19 doubles, 18 RBI, and two home runs. She is one of two Lancers to start all 56 games this season.
Makayla Medellin has also started all 56 games, and she is also a First-Team All-WAC honoree. Medellin has set Division I era records for home runs, RBI, and runs scored. She is hitting .354 with 13 home runs, 13 doubles, 56 RBI, and 52 runs scored.
Four Lancers were selected to the Second-Team All-WAC: Matti Severns, Malachy Russell-Millen, Ashlee Annett, and Emily Darwin.
Severns is hitting .333 and has stolen a Division I era record 32 bases. Russell-Millen is having a career year, hitting .354 with 12 doubles, six home runs, and 33 RBI. Russell-Millen has an OBP of .549, as she has 23 walks and has been hit by a pitch 24 times. Annett is batting .316 with four home runs and 44 RBI. Darwin featured an 11-5 record with four saves and a 3.54 ERA.
Kinley Pappas of Utah Tech was voted the WAC Player of the Year. Peyton Holland and Britney Moreno are the two WAC Co-Defensive Players of the Year.
CBU will open the postseason on Thursday at 8 a.m. (PST) against either Utah Valley or Southern Utah. Games will be streamed on ESPN+.
