RIVERSIDE --- Right-hander Miranda De Nava has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season. De Nava tossed a complete game shutout on Friday, part of two CBU wins that led to the first WAC Championship in program history.
The Lancers went 2-1 over the weekend against Tarleton State, capped off with a walk-off home run from Victoria Macias in the regular season finale to win the conference title. With that, the Lancers have claimed the top seed in this week's conference tournament in Stephenville, TX.
De Nava logged 15.0 innings in the circle over the weekend, finishing 1-0 in her three appearances. She allowed three runs, walked only two, and struck out 14.
Her first four strikeouts of the weekend moved her to the top spot in the record book, as De Nava now is the Division I era record holder for most strikeouts in a season. De Nava closed the regular season with 164 strikeouts and a 2.24 ERA.
The sophomore right-hander had her best showing of the weekend in game one of the series, as De Nava tossed her 14th complete game of the season. She struck out nine while allowing six hits in the shutout performance.
She added 4.2 shutout innings in relief during game two.
CBU is now bound for the WAC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday at Tarleton State University. As the top seed, the Lancers will open the postseason on Thursday against either Utah Valley or Southern Utah.
Thursday's game is scheduled for 8 a.m. (PST). With a win, the Lancers will advance to Friday.
