Macias’ Walk-Off Blast Wins the WAC

RIVERSIDE --- Riverside native Victoria Macias delivered the biggest swing in California Baptist softball's Division I era, as the Lancers captured the outright WAC Regular Season Championship in dramatic fashion. Trailing by one and facing their final two outs, Macias answered the call, as her walk-off moment marked a historic moment that those in attendance will never forget.
It's the first conference championship in the program's Division I era, and with it, the Lancers have clinched the top seed in next week's WAC Tournament in Stephenville, TX.
Saturday's ending was a flair for the dramatic, as CBU entered the top of the seventh leading by two, needing three outs to ensue a celebration. However, the Texans of Tarleton State had other plans as a bases-loaded double and a sacrifice fly pushed across three, placing the Lancers on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
Had the score held, and Tarleton State won, the two teams would have shared the WAC title, but the Texans would have been the top seed next week.
Ashlee Annett started the rally when she reached base on an error, placing the tying run on first with Macias due up. The reigning WAC Player of the Week took one pitch before swinging at the second, and from the crack of the bat, the CBU dugout knew they had just won. The ball sailed deep over the centerfield fence as the Lancers raced toward home plate to mob Macias and begin the celebration at John C. Funk Stadium.
Macias ended the regular season finale 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double on top of the walk-off homer. Matti Severns led the Lancers with a 3-for-3 performance and two runs.
The Lancers were the first to get on the board in Saturday's winner-take-all finale, as Annett singled to right field, plating a pair. Macias then drove her home on a double to right-center. Tarleton tacked on a run in the second with a solo shot, but the Lancers answered when Kenzie Farrier-Pilon drove home Severns on an RBI single.
Farrier-Pilon added two more RBI on a double in the fourth.
Solo shots were how the Texans did their early damage as they tagged Miranda De Nava with three, ending her day after 3.1 innings. Emily Darwin entered in relief and logged 3.2 innings on the way to her 11th win of the season.
The day was not done after Macias' walk-off shot, as Saturday was also Senior Day at Funk Stadium. With emotions high after a championship performance, the Lancers honored four seniors in a postgame ceremony: Malachy Russell-Millen, Makayla Medellin, Annett, and Darwin.
Those seniors will see their collegiate careers continue next week when the Lancers compete in the 2026 WAC Softball Tournament. As the top seed, CBU will open the tournament on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT. The Lancers will begin the postseason against either Utah Valley or Southern Utah.
All games during the WAC Tournament will be streamed live on ESPN+.
