RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After an outstanding week in the circle for No. 12-ranked California Baptist University, Ashley Coleman was named the PacWest Newcomer of the Week, announced Monday morning.
The freshman right-handed pitcher threw 23 scoreless innings in the Bay Area to go 4-0 in the Lancers' 8-0 trip and extend her scoreless streak to 26-consecutive innings. Coleman allowed just nine hits and three walks, while striking out 21 batters. Backed by her defense, the Corona, Calif., native held her opponents to a .118 batting average in her four complete game shutouts.
Coleman tossed one-hitters against two PacWest teams, lifting CBU 9-0 over Dominican University of California in six innings and 11-0 over Holy Names in five frames.
On the season, Coleman ranks third in the PacWest with both a 1.37 ERA and 55 strikeouts, while sitting fourth in opponent's batting average, keeping her opposition to a .215 clip.
Coleman and the rest of the Lancers are back in action at John C. Funk Stadium as they host three Hawaiian schools. CBU first takes on Chaminade for a four-game series, beginning Friday night at 6:00 p.m. for a doubleheader. The two teams conclude the series with another doubleheader on Saturday, set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
