CBU Splits the Day With North Dakota State

RIVERSIDE--- It was a busy day at California Baptist as the crossover season is in full effect, and it certainly did not let up as the softball program welcomed North Dakota State to Funk Stadium. An extremely competitive first game saw the Lancers walk off with a 2-1 win in nine innings, before the Bison came back in the second game of the day with a 5-0 win to even the series. CBU is now 21-10 on the season and 7-3 at home.
Brandon Telesco's squad got busy in the first inning as Ashlee Annett knocked an RBI double for an early lead that CBU would hold until the fifth inning. NDSU tied the game with a sacrifice fly after breaking through a pitcher's duel, which would carry on for nearly four more innings. Malachy Russel-Millen kicked off the bottom of the ninth as the go-ahead run and made her way on base after she was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt moved Russel-Millen into scoring position, and a beautifully placed single from Stevie Robision secured the first game of the day.
The second game of the day went the visitor's way as the Bison put up four runs in the first three innings, while keeping the CBU offense to a minimum. The Lancers had multiple opportunities with runners in scoring position and accumulated five hits against the NDSU pitching staff, but ultimately left six runners on base. Madalyn Martin and Annika Hollingsworth combined for five strikeouts.
Matti Severns and Russel-Millen led the way with a pair of hits each on Friday, while Miranda De Nava carried the CBU pitching staff with four strikeouts.
The series will be on the line tomorrow afternoon as CBU and NDSU will face off for one last time this weekend at 2 p.m.
