Halverson Highlights UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS – A runner-up finish from Christie Halverson on the final day provided the highlight of the UNLV Invite for the 10th-ranked California Baptist University Lancers of NCAA Division II on Saturday.
Halverson's standout performance came in the 1650-yard freestyle when she took second in 17 minutes, 14.33 seconds. It helped the Lancers take sixth in the D-I event with 360 points and hang right with Division I powers UC Santa Barbara (1,068), UNLV (820.50), Pacific (600), Brigham Young (393.5) and Cal Poly (369).
"Halverson does what she normally does, swimming anything and everything to help the team get it done," Coach Rick Rowland said. "She was our big point scorer this week with 49."
Earlier in the day, Halverson and Andrea Laliena both qualified for the championship final by taking fourth and seventh in 2:03.96 and 2:05.09 in the prelims. Both were close to the Division II consideration time of 2:03.33, while Emily Longfellow also took 15th in prelims (2:07.31).
Longfellow continued her impressive week at the D-I events when she secured herself a top-eight finish in the 100 individual medley by taking sixth in the prelims (59.19) and then came in seventh (59.31) in the finals. Taylor Dowden nabbed a top-16 mark by taking 13th in prelims (1:00.84).
The Lancers' 400-relay team of Longfellow, Hannah Parson, Grace Oeser and Halverson took 10th in 3:30.15.
Alex Wolf took 10th in the 200 breaststroke prelims (2:22.71) and ninth in the finals (2:21.79), while Melody Coleman finished 11th in the 200 fly (2:08.80) and Anna Peter came in 15th (2:09.73) in the race's finale.
