Having a Career Night

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — In the final game before the new year, California Baptist University took a break from conference action and grabbed a 99-65 victory over Simpson University Saturday night, with multiple Lancers having career nights.
The Lancers improve to 10-2 on the year with their fourth-straight win. Since the game was an exhibition for Simpson, the Red Hawks leave with their 5-6 record still intact.
De'jon Davis had a career night, leading the Lancers with 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting. He also chipped in 11 rebounds to complete the double-double, while also grabbing a block and a steal.
Cory Lange followed with 18 points (5-for-11) and a CBU career-high four assists. Kalidou Diouf (8-for-11) finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, while blocking five Red Hawk shots to tie his career high. Ty Rowell rounded out the quartet of scorers in double figures with 11 points (4-for-6), while also dishing out six assists. Jason Todd, Gabe Taylor and Jordan Heading all finished with eight points.
The Lancers dominated the glass, out-rebounding Simpson 52-to-35.
In its first game back in over a week, CBU took a little while to get going, trailing 10-3 six minutes into the game.
Lange drew a foul driving under the basket and hit both his chances at the line to cut the margin to five, 10-5, and spark a 7-0 run. Lange drained a three off a Heading assist in the Lancers' next possession before Diouf muscled his way to the basket to tie the game, 10-10.
Taylor hit a trey of his own from the corner, giving the Lancers their first lead of the night, 15-14, with just over 11 minutes left in the first.
The Red Hawks took back their lead, 21-20, but CBU went off on another 9-0 run to not only take the upper hand, but build some cushion in the process. Todd rattled in a three-pointer to spark the spurt, which was capped by a Diouf layup, 29-21.
That momentum carried through the rest of the half, with the Lancers going into halftime with a 46-32 lead.
Simpson came out of the half hoping to claw its way back into the game, but the Lancers had no intention of taking their foot off the gas.
After the visitors cut the margin to 54-41, CBU responded with nine unanswered points to extend its upper hand into 20-point territory, 63-41. Davis started the run with a layup off a Todd assist and rounded it up to three after drawing a foul on the play. The sophomore big man followed with a dunk in his team's next offensive possession and capped the run with a jump shot after a Rowell layup.
It was all but settled from there as CBU kept Simpson at a safe distance, never letting the Red Hawks closer than 21 points for the last 10 minutes of the game.
The Lancers closed out the game on four-straight points from Davis to seal the game, 97-65.
