LAS VEGAS — The bats were swinging for No. 18-ranked California Baptist University Saturday night at the Desert Stinger Tournament, but unfortunately they didn't turn into runs as the Lancers dropped a 3-2 loss to Stanislaus State and a 2-0 decision to Chico State.
CBU opens the season with a 1-4 mark, while the Warriors improve to 3-1 and the Wildcats stand 3-0.
Erin Burkhart led the Lancers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate against Stan State, scoring one of the two runs with a solo home run in the sixth. Ali Subia (1-for-3) scored the other run, while Brittany Galvez was 1-for-2 and Caitlyn Lloyd drew a walk.
Ashley Coleman struck out three batters and only allowed one earned run in the opener.
In the nightcap, Burkhart grabbed another hit, while Shaye Felix went 2-for-3 and drew one walk. Soraya Shahbazian and Lloyd also had hits in the game, while freshman Ciara Stapp struck out three Wildcats in seven innings.
The Lancers continue on the road next week at the Dixie State Tournament in St. George, Utah. CBU's home opener is Feb. 18 at noon when Colorado School of Mines comes to Riverside.
