Final Preseason Tune-Up

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — In its final tune-up before season officially starts next week, California Baptist University beat Pomona-Pitzer 5-0 in an exhibition game Thursday evening.
"It was good to get one last opportunity to prepare for our season and once again to get lots of guys on the field and try some things," said Coach Coe Michaelson. "Now the long preparations for the season are done and we are excited for our home opener next Thursday."
Three different Lancers scored, including two new faces. Gabriel Silva netted two goals and assisted on another, while Preston Judd also found the back of the net twice. Sebastian Wiesboeck was the other Lancer to score.
Silva led things off in the 24th minute, heading home Wiesboeck's corner kick to put the Lancers up 1-0. Six minutes later, Hugo Gutierrez put Judd in behind the Sagehen defense to make it 2-0.
In the 37th minute, Silva drove a long ball into Pomona-Pitzer's defensive third, allowing Wiesboeck to run onto it and take off on a breakaway. With just the Sagehen goalkeeper to beat, Wiesboeck volleyed it up and over his head, into the back of the net, 3-0.
CBU didn't strike again until the 85th minute when Judd scored his second goal of the game. Chris Heckenberg and Gutierrez combined to find Judd at the top right corner of the box, allowing the freshman to one-touch it home, 4-0.
Silva put a cap in the scoring with just about two minutes left in the game. Taylor Moe took advantage of a defensive misclear and found a wide-open Silva, who tapped it in, 5-0.
The Lancers open the season at home next Thursday, hosting Cal State San Bernardino at 4:30 p.m.
