Early Morning Result

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After an early morning, California Baptist University dropped a 2-1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino to open the season.
The Lancers start out 0-1-0, while the Coyotes begin 1-0-0.
"Not the result we were looking for," said Coach Kristen St. Clair. "We did some good things in the second half. Their two goals came off two mistakes on our part, but to their credit they capitalized. Uncharacteristic miscues of us, but we'll work on fixing those. Thought we responded very well in the second half."
CSUSB scored two goals in the first half to put CBU in a 2-0 hole at halftime, but the Lancers weren't about to throw in the towel.
CBU came out eager to get into the attack. After back-to-back corner kicks to open the second half, Mariya Fefilova missed just wide in the 49th minute. Less than a minute later, Miranda Hald looked like she'd break the barrier, but knicked the crossbar on her attempt.
The Lancers tallied nine corner kicks in the second half alone and capitalized on another dead ball in the 85th minute. After the Coyotes committed a foul in their defensive half, Symone Mack sent in a long ball toward the box. A CSUSB defender tried to clear it out of danger, but it went the other way and into the back of the net to cut the score to 2-1.
Despite other chances, the score held firm at 2-1 in favor of the Coyotes. CBU will look to bounce back next week as it hosts Cal State San Marcos for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 7th.
"Not the complete game we were looking for, but we'll take lessons from this game and go back to work tomorrow and get ready for Cal State San Marcos," said St. Clair.
