HAWAI'I BOX SCORE
TORONTO BOX SCORE
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the ninth time this season, California Baptist University faced a top-25 ranked team, taking on fifth-ranked Hawai'i on Wednesday at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
Lizette Perez and Jocelyn Schwegler each logged two points in the game for the 23rd-ranked Lancers in a 20-3 loss to Hawai'i. The Rainbow Warriors improve to 8-1 this season, while the Lancers drop to 4-7. All seven of CBU's losses have come to top-ranked competition, with three games coming against top-five ranked squads.
CBU rebounded in the nightcap with an 11-6 win over the University of Toronto in exhibition action. Perez tallied three goals, three assists and two steals versus the Varsity Blues, while Kira O'Donell also had a hat trick and steal in the victory. Annie Eubanks notched two goals, an assist and steal, while Katie Fugit also had an assist and steal against Toronto.
Megan Rocha had four saves and two assists in 16 minutes in the cage. Catie Kaliszewski, Jaclyn Myers and Allie Coleman would also score in the game, which included an assist and steal from Schwegler.
The Lancers continue a busy week with three games this weekend. They open Golden Coast Conference play at Santa Clara on Friday at 3 p.m. and then take on Cal State Monterey Bay and 10th-ranked UC Davis on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Perez scored twice and had a steal against Hawai'i, while Schwegler tallied a goal and assist in the game. Rocha played the second half in the cage and tallied six saves over the final 16 minutes for the Lancers, who also had Coleman log two steals.
The Lancers kept things close early on with the Rainbow Warriors. Hawai'i scored the first three goals, which prompted a Lancer timeout. CBU converted out of the break, immediately drawing an exclusion which led to the first goal from Perez to make it 3-1.
Hawai'i scored the next 11 goals until CBU got back on the board with another goal from Perez. Schwegler set up the score when she threaded a pass through the heart of the Warriors' defense, which led to a lob-shot goal from Perez right in front of the cage to make it 14-2. Schwegler saved the best for last when she scored CBU's final goal from about seven meters out to cap the scoring.
