CBU Readies For Joust

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – Twenty teams will descend upon the Goose Creek Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday for The Joust – California Baptist University's one and only home event of the season.
CBU hosts the three-round, 54-hole tournament, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on both days. Live scoring will be available throughout the Joust at Golfstat.com. Fifteen of the teams on the course are out of the West Region.
The Lancers will get a good look at the PacWest and a good chunk of the West Region this week. Five other PacWest teams will be attendance: Hawaii Hilo, Academy of Art, Holy Names, Notre Dame de Namur and Dominican, while six CCAA teams: Chico State, Cal State East Bay, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Sonoma State and Stanislaus State and three GNAC teams: Simon Fraser, Saint Martin's and Concordia (Oregon) make up a total of 15 West Region teams in the field.
It will be a big test for every team involved, with two top-16 ranked squads (No. 9 Colorado-Colorado Springs and No. 16 Chico State) in attendance.
CBU looks to defend its home course and win its event for the second time in three years after taking third last year. No matter what, there will not be a repeat champion this year after BYU-Hawaii, which eliminated athletics this year, won the 2017 championship.
This season, the Lancers have two top-five finishes. They took fifth in the Sonoma State Invitational in the second tournament of the season and tied for fourth at the Fujikura Invitational in the beginning of February.
Overall, CBU is averaging a 297.72 as a team and have four golfers logging season averages below 76. Ben Hallam and Greg Gonzalez are the only two Lancers to play in all six tournaments this year. Hallam averages a team-best 73.39, while Gonzalez follows with a 74.22. Ryan Monsalve and Dan Heron have both appeared in five tournaments and average a 75.60 and 75.69, respectively.
This will be the 10th year in a row CBU has hosted a tournament, although locations (from golf course to states) have ranged over the seasons. Here's a look back at previous tournament champions, both teams and individuals over that span:
