RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A hat trick from Annie Eubanks and 14 saves from Grace Ramirez highlighted California Baptist University's second Golden Coast Conference of the season. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome eighth-ranked Pacific in a 17-8 Lancer loss on Saturday.
Eubanks finished with three goals, three drawn ejections, an assist and two steals in all, while Pua Wong added two goals, as well. Maddie Meza, Vickie Ochoa and Kira O'Donell scored CBU's three other goals, as the Lancers fall to 13-13 this season and 1-1 in the GCC. The Tigers improve to 10-6, 3-0 and is the favorite to repeat as conference champions this year.
The Lancers were hampered by injuries to two of their regular contributors, but still received some big performances. Lizette Perez did not score but had two assists and five drawn ejections, while Meza also two assists and two drawn ejections.
CBU is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 25 Azusa Pacific for a conference contest at 4 p.m.
Pacific scored the first four goals of the game Saturday, but scores from O'Donell and Ochoa made it a more manageable 5-2 deficit in the waning seconds of the first quarter.
The Lancers' greatest run came when Wong and Eubanks scored consecutive goals early in the fourth quarter to make it a 13-7 game. Eubanks and Meza would score again in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
