RIVERSIDE, Calif. — California Baptist University has a new challenge ahead of itself for the 2018 season as the Lancers kick off their inaugural NCAA Division I schedule with some new competition, including a team that advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament.
While the season officially gets started on August 17 when Loyola University Maryland comes to town for the home and season opener, CBU gets two exhibitions in to get out any kinks early. The Lancers will take on Long Beach State on August 8 and local foe UC Riverside, with game times and locations still to be decided.
Two days after the Lancers host the Greyhounds, they will host Antelope Valley on August 19. CBU hits the road for the first time this season on August 24, traveling north to UC Davis. The following week, the Lancers welcome Houston to Riverside for a match up on August 31.
September leads off with the Lancers in Mississippi for a game at Jackson State (Sept. 6) and Mississippi Valley State (Sept. 8). CBU then returns home for three more non-conference games before Western Athletic Conference action begins. The Lancers host Southern Utah on Sept. 16 and a familiar foe Hope International (NAIA) on Sept. 21, before traveling to Cal Poly on Sept. 23 for their last tuneup before WAC play.
CBU kicks off conference action at Seattle U on September 28, before a quick turnaround to Chicago State two days later (Sept. 30). New Mexico State comes to town on October 5, with another short turnaround for the Lancers as they head to Grand Canyon for a game on Oct. 7. The Lancers and Lopes are familiar opponents with GCU competing in the PacWest with CBU before transitioning to the WAC and Division I. CBU currently holds a three-game winning streak over GCU, with a 4-2-0 all-time record.
The following week brings two tough foes: the defending WAC regular season champions Kansas City, which went undefeated in conference action last year, and the WAC tournament champions Utah Valley. The Roos will be in town on Oct. 12, while the Wolverines make the trek to Riverside for a game on Oct. 14.
CBU's last home conference game of the year is versus Cal State Bakersfield on Oct. 19, before one last road trip to Texas for a game on Oct. 21 at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The Lancers conclude the year back at home, hosting the University of Montana on Oct. 26 for its final game of the season.
