RIVERSIDE – Sixteen scouts came out for California Baptist University's 17th annual Scout Day on Wednesday at Totman Stadium.
All draft-eligible Lancers worked out for the scouts, taking batting practice, running the 60-yard dash, taking infield/outfield and playing a simulated game where each pitcher faced three to four hitters. For 10 years in a row, at least one CBU player has been selected in the annual MLB First-Year Player Draft under Coach Gary Adcock.
A total of 24 players have been drafted over the last 14 years to give CBU 35 draft picks over the past 37 years. Eight former Lancers were active in minor league baseball last year: Trevor Oaks, Caleb Dirks, Adam Hofacket, Tyson Miller, Justin Montgomery, Logan Rinehart, Andrew Bash and Matt Mogollon.
Miller became the highest-draft selection in CBU history, going in the fourth round at No. 134 to the Chicago Cubs in 2016, while Oaks became the first Lancer to make an MLB roster when he made four appearances for the Kansas City Royals in 2018.
