RIVERSIDE --- On a windy Thursday afternoon and with a Western Athletic Conference title on the line, California Baptist University handled its business against Seattle U in a thrilling 4-2 victory.
With the win, the Lancers improve to 13-3-1 on the season and 6-1-0 in the WAC. The Lancers are now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings and have a chance to claim their first-ever WAC regular-season championship.
"I'm really proud of the team," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "Today was a gritty performance. With possible championship implications on the line, we knew that we'd have to bring our best performance. We started well, but gae up two uncharacteristically soft goals. With such a young team, I was impressed with our response and resolve to quickly get back to work and take the game to our opponent. Our attack created numerous dangerous scoring opportunities, and aside from two goals, our defense was very good."
The Redhawks entered the contest as the lone undefeated team in the conference at 4-0-1. They also came into the game recording three previous shutouts and 291 minutes of action without allowing a goal.
That stat wouldn't hold true for too long, though, as the Lancers welcomed the Redhawks with a goal in the 18th minute. Rebecca Romero was able to win a ball on a hustle play and quickly passed it to Rola Badawiya. Badawiya wasted no time as the ball found her inside the 18, moving it to her left foot and bending it to the top right corner for the first goal of the game.
Badawiya's goal marked her 10th of the season, which moves her up one spot for the top goal-scorer in the conference.No. 1⃣0⃣

The Redhawks wouldn't go down without a fight, as SU's top scorer Jessie Ray scored back-to-back goals five minutes later. Ray was able to score two goals in the span of 40 seconds to give the Redhawks their only lead of the match.
CBU would bounce back with 10 minutes left in the first half, as Ari Coronado threw her hat in the ring for a SportsCenter top-10 play. Coronado received a pass from Juliette Mollenauer-Brown, and turned and fired with her right foot well outside the box for a high bending shot to the top corner of the net.
The Lancers went into the break tied at 2-2, as the top two teams in the league combined for 17 shots (CBU 9, SU 8).😱😱😱

The second half started out slower than the first, with each side not wanting to give up an inch. The passing started to become more precise as each team went back and forth, trying to claim control of the possession.
Karley Weeks provided a spark for the Lancers at the 78th minute, as the junior nailed the game-winner with a sneaky goal to the left side of the net. Weeks had a defender on her left side but decided to fire from a range that caught the Redhawks' keeper off guard for the third goal of the game.
With the crowd counting down the final 10 seconds of the match, it was Weeks again who hustled to the ball and scored the fourth and final goal.🎉🎉🎉
