CBU improves to 9-4 heading into 2020, and Western Athletic Conference play, while Ottawa falls to 4-8 on the year. The Lancers end their six-game homestand undefeated in December, and open league action with two tough games against The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and NM State on Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
The Vaqueros finished fourth in the WAC and played in the Collegeinside.com Tournament last season. The Aggies ended 2018-19 with a 30-5 record and won the conference's regular-season and tournament championships to earn the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. NM State's lone conference loss last year came at CBU on a score of 82-76 on Jan. 3, 2019.
Despite the lopsided final score, the Lancers went into halftime holding a 45-44 lead. CBU began building on its advantage about halfway through the second half. The Lancers went on an 11-5 run in less than four minutes, thanks to a trio of three-pointers – one each from Acquaah, Flavors, and Armstrong.
It matched CBU's largest lead of the game at 10, 67-57, with 9:42 left in regulation. The Lancers then closed out the final four minutes of the contest on a 17-8 run. CBU knocked down three more triples down the stretch – one each from Acquaah, Nottage, and Jordan Gonzalez – to push the lead as high as 20, 92-72, in the final seconds.
The Lancers knocked down seven of their 10 threes on a 43.8 percent clip (7-for-16) in the second half. Flavors led CBU's offense in the second half with 11 points over the final 20 minutes. Morison scored a team-high 14 points on a perfect six-for-six shooting in the first half.
