Lancers Cap Off Perfect 3-0 Weekend

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – A perfect three-for-three weekend at the Tina Finali Invite helped 24th-ranked California Baptist University move its record above .500 for the first time this season. The Lancers defeated Sonoma State 12-9 and Fresno Pacific 15-10 to improve to 8-7 on the year.
Kira O'Donell had a hat trick in both games, while Madison Gonazles had two goals in each game, as well. Lizette Perez played a big role in CBU's comeback win over Fresno Pacific, as she scored five goals in that game alone.
Goaltending was crucial for the Lancers in both games, as well. Victoria Reardon blocked 11 shots, including one five-meter, in the win over the Sunbirds. Grace Ramirez had seven saves and five steals on the Seawolves.
The Lancers will head to the Harvard Invite next week where they will face 16th-ranked Harvard and Brown on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. Pacific. CBU will end things with games against No. 14 Princeton and Gannon on Sunday.
Fresno Pacific scored the first two goals on CBU, but goals from Perez and O'Donell quickly tied the score less than minutes into the game. The Sunbirds went back in front by two, 5-3, 20 seconds into the second quarter, but a flurry of goals from Perez, Maddie Meza, Pua Wong and O'Donell forced a 7-7 tie by halftime.
Perez then went on a 3-0 run by herself to start the second half and put CBU ahead 10-7 with 2:55 left in the third quarter. FPU cut its deficit back down to 11-9 with 5:56 left in regulation, but three-straight goals from Wong, Gonzales and Quon gave CBU a strong 15-9 lead with 1:25 to go.
CBU started Saturday's opening game on a 4-1 run, thanks to two goals from Katie Fugit and one each from O'Donell and Gonzales.
Sonoma State fought to keep it a two-goal game in the first half, but the Lancers ended the second quarter on a 3-1 run, with Morgan Baker and Madison East scoring in the final 30 seconds to give CBU an 8-4 lead.
The Lancers took their largest lead of the game, 10-5, halfway through the third quarter on consecutive goals from Perez and Fugit. Quon scored with 6:58 in regulation to maintain the five-goal advantage, 11-6, and O'Donell ended the scoring with 2:50 to go.
