The Lancers scored in the top of the first inning and never looked back en route to a 5-1 victory over the 25th-ranked Gauchos at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. It ended a 12-game winning streak for UCSB, which tied for a program high, and was just its third loss the season (14-3).
CBU improves to 14-6, with Western Athletic Conference play beginning next week. The Lancers will first head to Arizona State for a non-conference game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before conference action starts at Grand Canyon 48 hours later and continues through Sunday.
Andrew Bash and Matt Mogollon combined to hold the Gauchos to a season-low one run on Sunday. Bash got the win after going five innings in which he gave up six hits, two walks, one run and struck out three. Mogollon earned the save with four shutout and no-hit innings where he struck out four and walked just one.

There were several great defensive plays that kept UCSB's bats quiet, as well. Billy Rockefeller made a great sliding catch in center field in the second inning, while Chad Castillo saved a run when he ran down a line drive in the left-center gap to end the seventh inning.

A nice running scoop and throw from Angelo Capolupo at short and dig from John Glenn for out number one in the bottom of the ninth to dash just about any hopes of a UCSB comeback.
Castillo and Rockefeller both had two hits and one for extra bases in the game, too, as the Lancers out hit the Gauchos 8-6.
CBU's offense got off to a great start with four runs in the first two innings. Bash and Ryan Mota started a two-out rally with a full-count single and walk, respectively. Glenn delivered the big blow of the inning with a 2-2 RBI single to right.
The Lancers took their largest lead of the week, with a three spot in the second. Harrison Spohn coaxed a one-out walk, took third on a single to the right-center gap from Luke Navigato and scored on a bloop, single from Castillo.

A walk to Bash loaded the bases with one out and prompted a pitching change for the Gauchos. Mota jumped on the first pitch he saw and sent it down the left-field line for a two-run double and 4-0 Lancer lead.

UCSB finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. CBU got the run back for a 5-1 advantage in the sixth after a leadoff double from Rockefeller. Spohn sacrifice bunted him to third and some situational hitting from Navigato scored him on a grounder to second to cap the scoring.
