RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the second time this year, California Baptist University is receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division I top-30 poll.
The Lancers were one 55 teams to receive votes in the NCBWA's new rankings released on Monday. CBU is coming off a season-ending Western Athletic Conference series victory at New Mexico State that clinched it a share of the WAC title.
CBU ended the year with a 35-20 record in its first season in Division I, while going 19-8 in the WAC to become just the second team to ever win a regular-season conference title in its first D-I campaign.
It is the fourth-straight season in which the Lancers have won 35 games, which are the third most by a team in its first season in D-I. Forty teams have made that move since 1998.
Dallas Baptist holds the record for wins in its first D-I year at 44 back in 2004, while Florida Gulf Coast is second with 38 back in 2008 and is the only other team to win a regular-season conference title after it won the Atlantic Sun crown 11 years ago.
The Lancers were last receiving votes in the NCBWA on Feb. 25th when it had just gotten out to a 9-0 start to the year. It made them the first team in Division I to reach nine wins in 2019. CBU also finished the year strong by winning nine of their last 11 games.
