Lancers Sweep Wolverines to Improve WAC Standing

Patience on offense and a strong start from Andrew Bash guided the Lancers to the win over the Wolverines on Sunday afternoon at Totman Stadium. CBU outscored UVU 21-2 on the week, ending the series with consecutive shutouts to improve to 29-18, 14-7 in the WAC, while Utah Valley dropped to 11-35, 7-14.
NM State forced a three-way tie for first in the WAC with a 10-0 win over The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, with both teams at 15-6 in league, along with Sacramento State.
The Lancers play a non-conference game at CSUN on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before returning to WAC play with their final home series versus Chicago State Friday through Sunday, with Senior Day taking place on the home finale. Friday's opener will feature a postgame fireworks show courtesy of Baker's Drive-Thru and Saturday's contest will have a CBU rally towel giveaway sponsored by Altura Credit Union.
Offensively, CBU out hit UVU 11-2 and took advance of 12 free passes(six walks, six hit by pitch) from the Wolverines. Three Lancers had multi-hit games, Luke Navigato was a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored, three runs batted in, a home run and a stolen base.
John Glenn was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Rory Smith was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double. True freshman Chad Castillo extended his hitting streak to nine games, and his reached-safely streak to 15 contests.
Bash was absolutely dominant on the mound for CBU. He struck out seven-straight batters at one point from the second through the fourth innings. He was a lead-off single in the game away from perfection over the first five innings.

Overall, Bash threw six strong innings for the quality start, giving up just two hits, one walk and struck out 10 to match his career high and set a new season best. Seth Kaneen threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning, with two strikeouts to complete the shutout.
Three free passes and a single from Glenn helped CBU score first in the bottom of the first. Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to score the first run of the game. Navigato then hit a two-run homer in the second to make it 3-0.

Four hits and an error led to four CBU runs in the third inning. Smith started the inning with a double to left and then Damon Keith and Angelo Capolupo reached base. The Lancers scored all four runs with two outs: Navigato, Castillo and Glenn each had singles that scored runs in the inning, with Glenn driving in two to make it 7-0.

The Lancers kept pushing for the run-rule victory in the seventh. Navigato and Castillo singled out of the gate and Bash loaded the bases with a walk. Glenn delivered the early victory with a hard single through the left side.
