RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Tyson Miller was named to the Southern League's North Division All-Star Team, while fellow former California Baptist University pitcher Adam Hofacket is also in the middle of a stellar season in Minor League Baseball.
Miller is currently in his first season with the Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate, the Tennessee Smokies, and is ranked 19th on the Cubs' Top-30 Prospect List on MLB.com. Hofacket has been solid with the Double-A Mobile BayBears of the Los Angeles Angels.
In his first season in Kodak, Miller holds a 3-3 record with a 2.26 earned-run average. Over 11 starts, Miller has pitched 63.2 innings, struck out 61 batters to just 11 walks and maintained a .205 batting average against. Miller leads the Southern League in WHIP (0.91) and is fourth in ERA and innings pitched. The Southern League All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, June 18th, and can be viewed with a paid subscription to the MiLB.TV app.
Hofacket boasts a 1.07 ERA and a 1-1 record with one save through 17 appearances and 25.1 innings in the BayBears' bullpen. The right-handed pitcher has given up just three earned runs on the year, and has 27 strikeouts to seven walks. He hasn't allowed an earned run over his last eight appearances and 12 innings.
The Angels drafted Hofacket in the 10th round at 315th overall in 2015 to make him a top-five pick in CBU history. He ranks fifth all-time for the Lancers with a 2.66 career ERA. He also ranks sixth in career strikeouts (198) and innings pitched (253.2), seventh in complete games (seven) and ninth in wins (19).
Back in 2016, Miller became the highest Major League Baseball draft pick in CBU's history when the Cubs took him in the fourth round at 134th overall. It's an honor Miller still holds, even after the Lancers stretched their streak of having a player drafted to 10 years this season. Miller still ranks third in CBU history with 237 career strikeouts, fifth in wins (23) and innings pitched (272.1) and seventh with a 2.71 ERA.
