RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University's Chad Castillo and Damon Keith were both listed on Perfect Game's NCAA Top-200 for the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
Castillo and Keith were the only two players in the Western Athletic Conference to make the list. Castillo is ranked at 139, while Keith checks in at No 165 on the list.
For 10 years in a row, at least one CBU player has been selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft under Coach Gary Adcock. A total of 24 players have been drafted over the last 14 years to give CBU 35 draft picks over the past 37 years.
Castillo has been a hot prospect ever since his phenomenal freshman season at CBU. He was voted to the 2020 Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference Team by the league's coaches and by Perfect Game back in February.
Castillo played in 54 of 55 games and made 48 starts and ranked second for CBU with a .335 batting average; third with 65 hits; fifth in runs scored (32), runs batted in (27) and slugging percentage (.423) as a freshman.
This year, Castillo hit .350 (21-for-for 60) in a shortened season. He also drove in nine runs and maintained a .500 slugging and .451 on-base percentage with five stolen bases and nine runs batted in through 15 games.
Keith hit .273 (12-for-44), slugged .455 and had an OBP of .418 this year. He also had nine RBI and a team-high 11 walks through 15 games.
