O'Donell Named GCC Player of the Week For Third Time

RIVERSDE – For the third time this season, California Baptist University produced the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week. Kira O'Donell earned her first award for the year, and third of her career.
O'Donell shared the award with Santa Clara's Maggie Oys, which made her the first Lancer in program history to receive the GCC Player of the Week award more than twice since CBU joined the conference in 2014. Grace Ramirez also earned the honor twice this season, as the Lancers are the only school in the league to reap the award three times this year.
CBU went 3-1 at the Tina Finali Invite at Cal Lutheran last week, with wins over Fresno Pacific (8-6), Cal State Monterey Bay (16-5) and Sonoma State (12-9). The Lancers improved to 9-4, which is their best 13-game start to a season since 2007.
O'Donell, the junior attacker, put up a team-high 13 points on seven goals and six assists over four games last week. She also drew eight ejections and had five steals. On the year, O'Donell ranks third in the GCC in points (43) and goals (30).
Her best outing last week came when she logged three goals, two assists, drew three ejections and also had a steal against Cal State East Bay. She extended her goal streak to nine games and her point streak to 10, with a goal and multiple points in each game.
The Lancers will play four more games this week at the Claremont Convergence. CBU opens against St. Francis (Brooklyn) and Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., respectively, and then close out the weekend versus host CMS and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.
