RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University announced the hiring of Tyler Hancock as baseball's new assistant coach on Monday.
Hancock will be CBU's new recruiting coordinator and work with the Lancers' catchers and outfielders. He previously served as Dallas Baptist's Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2020. Prior to DBU, the Washington, Oklahoma native spent three years at SIU Edwardsville after getting his start at Southern Illinois and Cowley County Community College.
"Tyler separated himself in the process from a tremendous list of candidates. His experiences as a player and coach fit perfectly with what I was looking for," Coach Gary Adcock said. "From his time at SIU to most recently at DBU, his ability to communicate, with a learner's mindset, and unwavering determination will be exciting to see on display at CBU."
Hancock is a former first baseman who got his start coaching first base and worked with catchers, outfielders, and hitters at his first stop at Cowley. He drew high praise from Dallas Baptist Coach Dan Heefner.
"Tyler is a great coach and is an unbelievable person. He is positive, hardworking, and will do anything to help the players he's coaching improve," Heefner said. "He made our program better in his time at DBU, and I know he will help CBU continue to build on the success they've already had."
As a player, Hancock spent 2009-10 at Cowley, where he hit .311 and helped Cowley reach the Junior College World Series as a freshman. He then batted .370 with 44 runs batted in as a sophomore en route to making the Kansas Jayhawk All-Star Game in 2010.
At his next stop, Hancock hit .336 and slugged .435 as a junior at Central Oklahoma. He finished his playing career and earned his degree in sport communication at Newman University.
"I couldn't be more excited to be a part of this university and the CBU Baseball program," Hancock said. "I want to thank CBU President Dr. Ronald Ellis, Athletics Director Dr. Micah Parker, and Coach Adcock for the opportunity to share in the future success of Lancer Baseball. It's a blessing to know I will be surrounded by people of high character and integrity. I look forward to challenging our student-athletes, both spiritually and professionally to be the best versions of themselves."
