NORCO --- California Baptist University hosted Grand Canyon for the final home game of the season on Sunday, as the Lancers and the Lopes played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
The tie is the first for the Lancers on the season in Western Athletic Conference play, as they now stand at 4-2-1. Grand Canyon entered the contest undefeated in conference play and held on to the top spot in the standings at 5-0-2.
Deniah Wells opened up the scoring for the Lancers in the final minutes of the first half. Danielle Gordon played a ball up the left side to Wells, who beat her defender and hit a perfect strike to the bottom right side of the net.

The goal gave the Lancers the 1-0 lead at the break and marked Wells' first goal of the season.
Grand Canyon responded in the second half, as a penalty kick was awarded in the 56th minute. Marleen Schimmer, who leads the WAC in goals scored, recorded her 10th goal of the season to provide the equalizer for the Lopes.
CBU was knocking on the door for the rest of the second half, as the Lancers outshot the Lopes, 11-4, for the final 30 minutes of regulation.
Grand Canyon came out in the first overtime period and recorded six shots, but Romy Salvador kept the Lopes from finding the game-winner with four saves in the two periods.
Morgan Witz led the Lancers' offense with five shots, while Karley Weeks recorded three shots with two on frame. Salvador finished her 110 minutes in the net with seven saves.
"I thought our team played great today," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "I could not have been happier with their preparation and performance. It's disappointing to only get one of three points, but the performance was the best we've played to date this season. We controlled the majority of the game from the opening whistle. Defensively, our shape was excellent, our backline and midfield were very cohesive in quickly shutting down our opponents. Romy continues to prove why she is the best goalkeeper in the WAC. Devyn Kelsey and Erin Gallagher led a stout defense. Amy Aquino, Makayla Soll, and Taylor Summit won just about every ball in their space. Offensively, we created a lot of dangerous scoring opportunities; we still need to be sharper in front of the goal. Karley Weeks and Morgan Witz were buzzing, creating opportunities for their teammates and themselves. Deniah Wells scored a brilliant goal to give us the lead. This was a collective team effort from the first to the last whistle. Now, we turn our focus to DSU."
