OREM --- California Baptist University closed out its Utah road swing on Saturday, as the Lancers fell in a 1-0 match to Utah Valley.
The loss moves the Lancers to 6-8-2 on the season and 4-4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference, while Utah Valley improves to 10-5-2 and 5-1-2 in conference play.
It was a rainy and windy day, as both teams battled the conditions for all 90 minutes. Karley Weeks led the Lancers on the day with two shots, while six other Lancers recorded one shot a piece.
Utah Valley was able to find the game-winner in the 18th minute, as the rest of the game came down to possession.
In our send game in 48 hours, we got off to a slow start," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "That being said, once we established our rhythm, we controlled large periods of the game. Unfortunately, the goal against was from a missed clearance in the box. The team showed heart and grit, fighting to level the game and creating a number of good scoring opportunities. We almost found the game-tying goal a couple of times, but unfortunately, we ran out of time. Not the result we wanted but a humbling lesson - the margins are so small at this level that a game can come down to a slow start, or a missed clearance, or a ball off the post."
