TEMECULA --- California Baptist University's women's soccer team opened up the 2021 spring season with a non-conference match against Saint Katherine on Wednesday, as the Lancers grabbed their first shutout of the year with a 5-0 victory.
The Lancers were dominant from start to finish, controlling the pace and possession for all 40 minutes of the match. In fact, the Lancers held the Firebirds without a shot, as Erin Gallagher, Brodi Blomdahl, Cora Jacoby, and Danielle Gordon held down the Lancers' backline.
The offensive day started off with a defensive player, as Gallagher was the first to get on the board from an Ari Coronado corner kick at the 14th minute. This marks Gallagher's second goal of her career, as her first goal was a game-winner against Chicago State in the 2018 season. She now owns two game-winners in her career.
After 10 minutes of pouring on pressure, the Lancers broke through the Firebirds' backline, as Karley Weeks found Faith Lee for the game's second goal.
It didn't take long for the Lancers to find the back of the net again, as Jayden Ramirez scored three minutes later on another corner kick assist by Coronado.
CBU went into the half with a 3-0 lead and outshooting the Firebirds, 19-0.
In the second half, the Lancers kept the ball on the offensive in, as they recorded 17 more shots to outshoot the Firebirds, 36-0.
Vanessa Evans found Deniah Wells at the 79th minute, and Wells made a nice move past her defender to score goal number four of the day.
Madeline Milby put the icing on the cake at the 85th minute, using her right foot to curl the ball around the Firebirds' goalkeeper.
That's how you open up a season!

Ramirez led the Lancers on the day with three points (1 goal, 1 assist), while Coronado, Gallagher, Lee, Milby, and Wells all had two apiece.
