RIVERSIDE --- The future continues to look bright for California Baptist University's women's soccer team, as the Lancers are poised to return the majority of the lineup and reserves after posting their fifth straight double-digit winning season in the shortened 2021 spring season.
CBU finished the year at 10-4-3 and 8-4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference to place third in the conference standings.
"We had another successful season and continued to make strong progress for the future," said Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "We finished the year winning 10 games for the fifth year in a row, top three in conference play, achieved a team GPA of 3.65, eight all-conference selections, an all-region selection and led or finished in the top three in multiple conference statistical categories. I'm proud of our team's grit, resolve, focus and performances. We're very excited about the future of CBU women's soccer."
The Lancers also produced a new NCAA Division I era-best eight student-athletes on the All-WAC Teams. Rola Badawiya, Romy Salvador and Erin Gallagher topped the list for the Lancers as First Team selections, while Ari Coronado and Karley Weeks were named Second Team All-WAC. Amy Aquino received an honorable mention, and Deniah Wells and Jayden Ramirez were named on the All-Freshmen Team.
Salvador was unstoppable in the net for the Lancers, leading the conference in goals-against average at 0.85 and third in save percentage at .779 on the season. Salvador and the rest of the Lancer defense helped record six shutouts on the season, moving her total to 12 shutouts as a Lancer and moving to sixth all-time in career goalkeeper shutouts.
Badawiya, the lone graduating senior on the team, capped off her career with her second straight United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region Team honor. It marked the fourth straight season the Lancers have placed at least one student-athlete on the All-Pacific Region Team.
After being a Third Team selection in the 2019 season, Badawiya was named All-Pacific Second Team after leading the Lancers in points and goals. In her two-year career, she etched her name into the record books, moving to third all-time in consecutive games with a goal (5) and fourth all-time in consecutive games with a point (6).
With the 10 wins on the year, St. Clair secured her fifth straight season with double-digit wins and improved to 185-65-25 (.718) in her 14 seasons with the Lancers.
The Lancers will return seven of their eight all-conference honorees, led by Gallagher and Salvador, as the two First Team selections. Makayla Soll and Danielle Gordon will also return as two of five players to play and start in all 17 games for the Lancers.
