RIVERSIDE – Kira O'Donell became the first California Baptist University women's water polo player to earn multiple NCAA Division I All-America honors on Thursday.
O'Donell secured her third All-American award and second at the D-I level when the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) released its All-America Team on Thursday.
Over the last 11 years, the Lancers have produced at least one All-American each season. O'Donell is just the fifth Lancer to ever receive Division I All-America recognition, while CBU has now done it in three-straight seasons.
This marked the second time in the last three years O'Donell made honorable mention after she qualified for the Division II Second Team as a 2018 freshman. It all comes after O'Donell was voted All-Golden Coast Conference for the third time and to the GCC First Team for the first time in 2021.
The 2021 season was a banner campaign for CBU, as it qualified for its third-ever GCC Championship semifinal. The Lancers matched their best-ever NCAA ranking at No. 17 and their top-four seed and finish in the GCC tied for the second-best marks in program history.
O'Donell led CBU with 51 points, 32 goals and 22 drawn ejections over just 15 games this year. She also ranks second on the team with 19 assists and 17 steals. She ranked fifth in the GCC in points, seventh in goals and ninth in assists and steals to be one of just two GCC players to rank top-10 in those four major categories.
Overall, O'Donell scored in 13 of 15 games she played in this year. Within that, there were seven multi-goal games, six hat tricks and three five-goal games. She also had six games with a goal, assists and steal.
