RIVERSIDE --- The spring season is nearly upon California Baptist University's women's golf team, as the Lancers kick off their 2022 season with the fourth annual SoCal Ryder Cup against Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 31.
"We are all excited about The SoCal Ryder Cup that is being hosted by Cal State Fullerton this year at Black Gold Golf Club," said head coach Marc Machado. "This is a very challenging golf course and will be a fun and great test to start our spring season with. This event is always a favorite due to the format. CSU Fullerton is a very solid squad, and we are ready to compete!"
The one-day tournament will be held in Yorba Linda at Black Gold Golf Club, as the two teams will square off in match play. The front nine will consist of a three-team, best-ball match play. The back nine will showcase a 1-on-1 singles match play format with six different groups squaring off against each other. Each match is worth two points. If both teams are tied at the end, the tiebreaker will be determined by the first group on the front nine.
After the SoCal Ryder Cup, the Lancers will head up North to The Valley Invitational on Feb. 7-8 at the Bakersfield Country Club. The two-day event will be hosted by CSU Bakersfield.
CBU will end the month of February at a first-time tournament at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan on Feb. 25-27. The three-day event will take place at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
The month of March opens with the Lancers at another first-time event in Hawaii at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Hoakalei Country Club on March 7-8. According to the Americans Property Awards, the Ernie Els signature design course won 'Best New Golf Course in the U.S.' when it opened in 2010.
"A major highlight of the season for US is The University of Hawaii Tournament," added Machado. "The trip will be an incredible time to bond and compete together as a TEAM."
CBU will close out the regular season at the Red Rocks Invitational (March 19-20) and at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic (April 4-5). Northern Arizona will host the Red Rocks Invitational at Oak Creek Country Club, while Wyoming will host the Cowgirl Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course.
The Lancers end the season at the Western Athletic Conference Championship on April 18-20 in Kerrville, Texas, at the Riverhill Country Club.
When asked about the theme for the season, Coach Machado had this to say, "The TEAM theme for the 21-22 season is "US." We want to block out any outside noise or distractions and focus on US and what it takes to better US in every way possible. Ownership is our word for this spring semester. The ladies have decided to take full ownership of what it will take to be successful this spring. They have set goals, determined standards, and are ready to put in the necessary extra work. We are excited to take ownership which entails a lot of sacrifice and work."
