10/27/2022 9:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Lancers improved to 8-3-5 overall and 5-2-3 with 18 points in the WAC standings, and Sam Houston dropped to 3-10-2 on the year and 2-7-1 (7 points) in league play. With the win, CBU clinched a spot in the upcoming WAC Tournament at Championship Field Stadium being hosted by Seattle U on Nov. 2-6. The winner of the WAC Tournament will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. This is the first season that CBU has been eligible to compete in both the WAC and NCAA Tournaments since transitioning to the NCAA Division I level in 2018.
Lauryn White led the way for CBU with a pair of goals and an assist. Other Lancers with goals scored tonight include Lourdes Bosch, Frida Murrieta, Elizabeth Oglesby, and Madison Sonerholm. Bosch was credited with the game-winner. The six goals scored this evening by CBU is the most in a single-game for the program since defeating Chicago State, 7-0, back on March 6, 2021. The Lancers also attempted a season-high 33 shots compared to Sam Houston's seven.⚽️ Welcome to the WAC Women's Soccer Tournament @CBUwsoccer ❗️❗️

The shutout is the fourth straight for CBU and the eighth of the season. The last time the Lancers gave up a goal was in a 3-1 win over Tarleton on Oct. 14. That's an impressive 431 minutes the defense has not allowed a goal.Bosch bangs home the opening goal!#LanceUp⚔️ pic.twitter.com/sYCaCVgAjJ

Saturday will be exciting as it's the final day of the regular season for the WAC with a lot on the line for several teams. CBU will host fourth-place (20 points) New Mexico State at the CBU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. The Lancers, currently in fifth place, could finish as high as third place with a win against the NM State along with a Utah Valley win over Utah Tech, but could potentially drop to sixth place with a loss depending on the outcome of the Grand Canyon-Sam Houston match. There are other scenarios that could alter the standings and tournament seedings, but regardless the Lancers are in the postseason.
‼️LANCERS CLINCH‼️
