RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist University men's basketball moved to 2-1 with a 62-55 win over the CSUN Matadors after trailing by as many as 12 in the first half. CBU had a slow first half, scoring only 28 points and shooting 1-10 from the three-point line, but found their offensive rhythm in the second half and scored 34 points with six made three-pointers.
The Lancer bench had much to do with the comeback, contributing 28 points and 20 rebounds. Reed Nottage was tied for the Lancers' leading scorer on the night with 12 points, all coming in the second half. Teammate Hunter Goodrick led the team with eight rebounds off the pine. The Lancer bench outscored CSUN's reserves 28-12 and giving the team an offensive boost, especially in the second half.
CSUN made a late rally to get within two points with two minutes remaining but failed to score any points on the CBU defense in the final three minutes. Guard Joe Quintana made a driving layup to put the Lancers up five with 1:13 left, and Timothy Ighoefe got a late steal to seal the victory for the home team.
The Lancers controlled the offensive glass 14-7 over CSUN and were able to capitalize off turnovers with 12 points versus the Matadors two.
The Lancers now set their focus on their first road trip of the season, heading to Seattle, WA, to take on the Washington Huskies. That game is set for 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 17th, and can be seen on the PAC-12 Network.
