Lancers Win the Crosstown Showdown in 65-60 Thriller

RIVERSIDE --- The California Baptist University men's basketball team defeated their in-city rival UC Riverside 65-60 in a thriller at the CBU Events Center, avenging their loss to the Highlanders last season. The Lancers improve to 5-3 on the year while the Highlanders the Highlanders who fall to the same record of 5-3.
In the first half, the Lancers led for most of the first half, but a late UCR run gave them a 34-24 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Lancers opened up on a 13-1 run to take the lead behind back-to-back threes by Joe Quintana. Tim Ighoefe continued to defend the rim at a high level, with five blocks for the game. Ighoefe currently is tied for sixth in the nation in total blocks as well as blocks per game. Taran Armstrong again put together a well-rounded performance with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Up next for the Lancers will be a road trip to San Luis Obispo to take on another Big West foe, the Cal Poly Mustangs. That game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip on Saturday, December 3.

In the waning minutes of the second half, Riley Battin knocked down consecutive triples to swing momentum for the Lancers. With eight seconds left, Hunter Goodrick snagged a critical defensive rebound and knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the game for CBU.
