RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University men's golf is days away from opening the 2022 spring schedule, as the Lancers will first tee it up at the Orange County Collegiate on Feb. 7-8.
"We are excited to begin our spring campaign and feel blessed to have so many opportunities to compete on such incredible facilities," said head coach TL Brown. "It will be important to trust our preparation and stay confident when conditions change in the wind and rain."
UC Irvine will host the two-day tournament at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club. It marks the third straight season the Lancers will open the spring at this event.
With qualifying under their belts, Coach Brown has announced Sean Citherlet, James Mackie, Justin Cross, Ryan Fisher and Min Jun Kim as the five players to compete for the Lancers.
"I expect to see a great battle in qualifying between our veterans and new players," added Brown. "We could see different lineups throughout the spring season."
After a week break, the Lancers will then host The Joust at Goose Creek Golf Course on Feb. 21-22. It marks the third year the Lancers will welcome teams across the country and region to their own backyard.
A three-day trip to Bandon, Oregon, is next up for the Lancers as they will take on the Bandon Dunes Championship on March 6-8 at Bandon Dunes – Sheep Ranch. According to Golf Digest's latest ranking of the top 100 courses, Sheep Ranch came in at No. 80.
The Lancers will continue their road trip out of state with the GCU Invitational on March 14-15 in Arizona and the Redhawk Invitational on April 4-5 in Washington. Seattle U will host the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay, a nationally recognized golf course that came in at No. 37 in the Top 100 Public Courses You Can Play.
Our motto this year is "the Year before the Year," said Brown. "The team understands that our current season is very important for our future. The better we play, the better recruits we attract, and better invitations to bigger events become possible. We want to let people know we are coming not only in the WAC but on the national stage."
CBU will close out the regular season in California at the Sandpiper Invitational on April 11-12, hosted by UC Santa Barbara at the Sandpiper Golf Club.
"With quality motivation and preparation, we strive to improve each round and each event as we prepare for the 2022 WAC Championship in Nevada this May," Brown added.
The Lancers will end their season at the WAC Championship April 29-May 1 in Boulder Creek, Nevada.
