Citherlet Leads Charge After Day One At Orange County Collegiate

COTO DE CAZA --- California Baptist University men's golf team opened the 2022 spring season at the Orange County Collegiate on Monday, as the Lancers finished the opening 36 holes tied for seventh out of 10 teams.
The tournament is being hosted at Coto de Caza South Course as a par 72 with a distance of 6,950 yards. UC Irvine, the host of the two-day event, is in the lead after day one with a 12-over-par 588 team score. Cal State Fullerton is close behind in second with a 13-over-par 589 team score, while Seattle U is in third with an 18-over-par 594 team score.
The 10-team field was met with strong gusts of wind in the opening 18 holes that proved to play a factor throughout the morning.
After an opening-round 30-over-par 318 team score, the Lancers bounced back in the second round, shaving 21 strokes for a 9-over-par 297 to tie with UC Santa Barbara at seventh.
Freshman Sean Citherlet led the Lancers on the day, firing back-to-back 2-over-par 74's for a 148 to take T-10th. Justin Cross jumped up 12 spots to take T-26th after a second-round 1-over-par 73. Ryan Fisher and James Mackie also climbed up the leaderboard in the second round. Fisher moved up four spots after a 3-over-par 75 to finish T-40th with a 12-over-par 156. Mackie was right behind Fisher at T-43rd and jumped up nine spots after a 3-over-par 75 in the second round. Min Jun Kim currently sits in 61st with a 28-over-par 92-80=172.
The Lancers will look to move up the leaderboard during the final round on Tuesday, Feb. 8, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
