CBU Hangs with #11 Texas Tech in Lubbock
3/22/2022 7:37:00 PM | Baseball
Mitchel Simon, Ulises Caballero and Russell Stevenson all hit home runs in the game, but unfortunately each came with the bases empty. Caballero, Stevenson (double) and Michael Carpentier (double) all had two hits in the contest. Stevenson also extended his hitting streak to 13 games in the process.
The Lancers move to 13-6 on the season, while the Red Raiders improve to 18-4. Five CBU pitchers managed to hold a potent Texas Tech offense in check. The Lancer bullpen limited the Red Raiders to just one run over the final four innings.
CBU jumps out to a 2-0 lead but can't hold off 16th-ranked Texas Tech in a 6-3 loss in Lubbock.

Ryan Delgado was sharp in 2.2 innings of relief, as he gave up just three hits, no walks and struck out three in his appearance. His one mistake was hit for a solo homer in the sixth inning.
Liam Rocha closed out the game on the mound for the Lancers and allowed just one walk and struck out a batter over 1.1 innings. It keeps his perfect earned run average on the season intact.
RED RAIDERS AT A GLANCE
Texas Tech is ranked in all six major NCAA Division I polls, as high as No. 11 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll and is a top-16 squad in three other polls. The Red Raiders are coming off a strong 2021 season where they went advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals and ended the year ranked as high as No. 11 in the country.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings. Simon and Caballero got the offense started with back-to-back homers to lead off the third.

Texas Tech answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, scored three more in the fourth and another in the sixth for a 6-2 lead.
There was no quit from CBU. Stevenson hit a solo homer with one out in the ninth and Carpentier then hit a double down the left field line to put the potential tying run on deck. The Red Raiders would retire the next two batters, despite a long fly ball to the warning track from Simon, to end the game.
