
Lancers Lock Up WAC Series Sweep Over NM State

The Lancers collected 13 hits in the victory, as David Martin, Chad Castillo, Jake Skipworth and Russell Stevenson all had two each. Skipworth had thee runs batted in during the game, while Martin, Stevenson and Mitchel Simon put up two RBI.

CBU improves to 16-6 on the year and 5-4 in the WAC, while NMSU drops to 10-11 and 2-7. It was the Aggies' first Sunday loss of the season, as CBU's offense did damage to NM State's ace Ian Mejia, who came in with a 1.69 earned-run average but saw it balloon to 2.91 by the end of the game.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Skipworth drove in the Lancers' first three runs on Sunday, with a two-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the sixth. Stevenson added a pinch-hit, run-scoring single two batters after Skipworth in the sixth to give CBU a 4-2 lead.

The Lancers scored again in the seventh after a one-out triple from Marty Munoz and RBI bunt single from Martin. Three more runs scored for CBU in the eighth after a Stevenson's second RBI single and a full-count walk to Munoz and hit by pitch to Martin.

NM State stopped CBU's 6-0 run with a run in the eighth but the Lancers got that run back and another one on a two-run single from Simon in the ninth.

UP NEXT
California Baptist will host a University of San Diego squad that currently holds a 14-7 record on Tuesday at Totman Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. The Lancers will then host Seattle U for a pivotal WAC series on Friday, April 1 through Sunday, April 3.
CONFERENCE OUTLOOK
CBU put itself in position to move into a tie for third place in the WAC West Division with Sunday's win. Grand Canyon leads the league with a 7-1 conference record, while Dixie State (7-4) and Seattle U (5-3) came into Sunday in second and third, respectively. Sacramento State (3-5), is not far off CBU in fifth, while NM State (2-7) moves into a tie for sixth place with Utah Valley (2-7).
Dixie State and Seattle U were set to conclude their series later Sunday, with a Trailblazer win moving CBU into a tie for third with the Redhawks.
