It's a banner win for California Baptist, which improves to 22-9 on the season. Long Beach State drop to 15-16 on the season. Bengard turned in the best outing of his career in his second start of the season. He kept LBSU off the scoreboard and scattered five hits, did not allow a walk and struck out three over a career-high six innings pitched.
Liam Rocha closed out the game on the mound with 2.1 innings pitched in relief in which he allowed just one hit and struck out three.
The Dirtbags have won nine Big West championships, made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the College World Series four times. LBSU is coming off a third-place finish in the Big West Conference last year and opened 2022 with a three-game series win at third-ranked Mississippi State. The Dirtbags have gone on to secure three more ranked wins, with a 2-1 series victory over No. 15 Gonzaga and a 28-2 win at No. 17 Cal Poly.
