Lancers Take On Lions and Leopards at Long Beach State Mini

LONG BEACH – The second weekend of the women's water polo season has come and gone as the Lancers split the day at the Long Beach State Mini, dropping the opener to No. 24 Loyola Marymount 12-8 before dominating the evening finale against (DIII) No. 7 La Verne, 19-11. CBU now stands at 3-3 with plenty of season to go.

Jamie Hutton led all Lancers in the goal column with five on the day. Tyanna Schneider carried most of the goalkeeping duties on Saturday, protecting the cage for seven of the eight quarters played. She stopped 11 shots between the two games and tallied one steal. Kayla Demski filled out the remaining eight minutes, making the most of that time by blocking eight shots.

GAME ONE: LMU 12 – CBU 8

The Lions managed a hot start to the game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead by the five-minute mark in the second period. From then on, the Lancers outscored LMU 8-7, but the game was already decided.

Emaly Hutton led the Lancers with two goals in the opener, with Cayliegh Carter, Maddie Schwegler, Anielysa Mena, J. Hutton, Taylor Frandsen, and Celeste Almendariz all pitching in one apiece.

GAME TWO: CBU 19 – LA VERNE 11

The day's second game was a different story as CBU, and La Verne was locked in a tight battle for three quarters before the Lancers poured it on in the fourth quarter, finishing off the Leopards with a 7-2 fourth period.

J. Hutton and Mammen each netted four goals in the finale, with Kyndall Burrell netting a hat trick of her own. Almendariz made her presence felt throughout the game, recording a goal, an assist, and two steals against La Verne.

Next up is the annual Lancer Joust Tournament hosted by CBU. Tournament play begins Thursday afternoon with a single game against Cal State Fullerton at 3:30 p.m. at the Lancer Aquatics Center. After that, CBU will host another 18 games from Thursday to Saturday, four of which will see the host Lancers participate.
