"We were disappointed with our result on Thursday and leaving 2 points on the table," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We knew we needed a response and the team had a great talk last night about coming together. Continuing to come together to play and lean into the adversity together. We showed a great deal of heart, resolve and grit to earn the 3 points. I'm really proud of our team for the heart and maturity they demonstrated today."
Locked in a defensive stalemate, the squads battled for control of the game and totaled 17 fouls across the 90 minutes. SUU was awarded a foul in the 81st minute for a tackle outside the 18-yard box, but the Thunderbirds could not capitalize on the free-kick opportunity for the lead. California Baptist managed to break through the defensive stalemate after Lux found the low right corner of SUU's goal for the first goal of the match. White broke through the Thunderbird defense not even a minute later for CBU's second goal and secured their second win in conference play.
Lux's shot low in the corner marked her first goal in her collegiate career, and White also picked up her first goal of the season. Noa Schumacher came up big for the Lancers in both halves as she anchored the Lancer defense with six saves against Southern Utah's six shots on goal. The Lancers were able to get three shots on frame through the 90 minutes. The 2-0 victory also marks CBU's sixth shutout this season, a testament to the Lancer's established backline, and a ten-game unbeaten streak.
