Lancers Extend Unbeaten Streak to 12 at Home
10/12/2023 10:55:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist University's women's soccer program welcomed Stephen F. Austin to CBU Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening after being on the road for the last two weeks. The Lancers picked up their third win of the conference season with a 4-1 victory against the Lady Lumberjacks to improve their Western Athletic Conference record to 3-0-3 and extend their unbeaten streak to 12 matches.
Stephen F. Austin found the back of the net in the 20th minute after Noa Schumacher fouled a Lumberjack forward in the Lancer's 18-yard box. CBU trailed for just 10 minutes and tied the match off a beautifully lofted ball from Sonja Lux that found Natalia Castro's head for her first goal of the season. Ava Westlund picked up her first CBU career goal in the 40th minute off of Jordan Roe's corner and gave the Lancers the lead going into halftime.
California Baptist found their rhythm after the first 45 minutes and kept the ball mainly on SFA's side through the second half. Another first career goal found the back of the net in the 76th minute after Kaylee Hauck delivered a cross that was redirected into the net by true freshman Easton Seip. The Lancers sealed the match with a fourth goal from Syra Valdez, who chipped the SFA goalkeeper off a pass from Jana Heinen. The final goal marks Heinen's third assist this season, leading CBU in assists.
California Baptist outshot the Lady Jacks 23 to six, with 7 to 3 shots on frame. The Lancers also tallied 12 corner kicks to their one, a testament to CBU's consistent attacking performance. Kristen St. Clair's team now sits in second in the program record books as the longest all-time CBU unbeaten streak record at 12 matches. The longest streak currently sits at 14 games unbeaten in 2012, but the Lancers are on track to beat the record with all three of their final WAC opponents sitting in the bottom four of the conference standings. CBU now holds an 8-1-6 overall record.
California Baptist will celebrate their senior class on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. as they host UTRGV in their final regular season home match.
