10/10/2023 4:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RIVERSIDE--- California Baptist women's soccer played in just one game this week as they traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, to face Grand Canyon University on Sunday evening. Jana Heinen came up big for the Lancers as she found the back of the net in the last ten minutes of the match to level the score and keep CBU's unbeaten streak alive. With their 1-1 draw against GCU, the Lancers enter the new week 2-0-3 in Western Athletic Conference play and 7-1-6 overall.
THE LANCERS AT A GLANCE
Kristen St. Clair's squad fell behind the Lopes in the first 11 minutes of the match on Sunday evening at GCU Soccer Stadium. Taylor Summit and Heinen kept GCU from adding another goal through the next 80 minutes, allowing CBU to find the tying point. Summit delivered a beautiful ball across the box on a free-kick opportunity, and Heinen headed it over the GCU goalkeeper to tie the match.
California Baptist has not dropped a game in the WAC, holding an 11-game unbeaten streak. The 11 games are the longest in CBU DI history for a women's soccer team to go unbeaten and the most ties in the program's entire history. Noa Schumacher leads the conference in shutouts and goals allowed, letting just nine goals hit the back of the CBU net in over 1260 minutes. Working with a few injuries, the Lancers have flexed an impressively deep squad and continue to find goal-scorers, as well as disciplined defenders. CBU will be looking to pick up two wins this week, hoping to move back into second place in the WAC standings after dropping to third due to Seattle winning their conference match on Sunday.
